"Written in 2001, 'Prayer' was inspired by a profound and moving writing entitled 'A Prayer for the Dying.' ...The music, like the writing, is meant to assist the transition from life to death and beyond by causing easement and a feeling of safety in both the dying and loved ones, enhancing, for the dying person, the knowing that he or she is loved and that death is but a 'theatre of change.' ...there is intended within this music a healing balm, encouragement and fortification for all who are touched by the experience of death, whether that death be physical or loss of another kind, thus fostering next steps along the human journey, 'in living continuance.'
LISTEN to an MP3 sample of the premiere recording on "In Living Continuance" (CD-40901),
The music itself is not technically difficult. The trombones blend very well inside the string texture, especially if everyone playing this music is connected to the same sentiment and that sentiment resonates with the essence of what this music is about. 'Prayer,' in fact, was written to be played inside such 'tuning.'"
